Lent is Fast Approaching - ASH WEDNESDAY

Lent will be here on Wednesday - Ash Wednesday. My husband and I were joking around about starting to eat better during lent, so of course we went straight for the ice cream and chips last night... contemplating not eating them in a couple days. Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday, hmmmmm......

During Lent this year our parish started a book retreat called "33 Days to Morning Glory". A wonderful book by Fr. Michael Gaitley that brings us to Jesus through His Blessed Mother Mary.

Lent is not only a time to "give up" something, but it can and should be a time to do more.

Forms of Penance (1434)

Interior penance is best expressed externally in three forms:
  1. Toward oneself by fasting
  2. Toward God by prayer
  3. Toward our neighbor by almsgiving
There also should be tears, reconciliation with others, concern for other's salvation, intercession of the saints, and charity "which covers a multitude of sins" (1 Pet 4:8).
